A Day In The Life At Kennedy C Media

12/07/2019

A Day In The Life At Kennedy C Media

The Kennedy C Media typically goes from 11:00a.m. until about 4;00p.m.  Prior to 11 I don't feel like working and after 4 I generally have places to be or am spending time with my family. Even though there is a general formula to each day, no two days are exactly the same. Some days start closer to noon or one and other days end around two or three, although I do prefer to put in as much time as I can each day to Kennedy C Media. So what is a day at Kennedy C Media really like:

Hour 1: I decided to list "hours" rather than specific times since this can vary each day. The first hour is generally pretty slow, and mostly consists of me trying to figure out what needs to get done during the day. I start my work day by checking my emails and opening any mail I might have. Today for example I had received a package (of more merch?... perhaps) so I opened that up. On Monday's I'll generally use this time to plan my upload schedule for the week and decide what needs to be filmed, recorded or edited during the rest of the week. Any left over time during this hour I'll use to check the stats on my latest Youtube videos and podcast episodes. Generally this consists of checking how many views or listens the latest content has compared the week before.

Hour 2: On day when I am filming or recording this hour is for preparing and setting up for the video or podcast episode. For a Youtube video preparation consists of getting myself ready for a video by putting on makeup and whatever I'll be wearing in the video, setting up my backdrop if necessary and preparing any items I'll need in the video such as products I'm reviewing or dry erase boards for a challenge. For an episode of my podcast preparation consists of setting up my microphone, doing a sound test and pre-recording any advertisements from new sponsors prior to recording the episode. On days like today when I'm not filming several things happen during this hour; I do more in depth preparation for upcoming videos or podcast episodes, I photograph merch, I write a blog post or take care of other small details like cover art for the next episode of the podcast and a special intro for special videos like "It's My Party Week" and "Winter of Videos"

Hour 3: On days when I'm filming or recording this is the time when I'll film a video or an episode of my podcast and immediately after I'll edit the video or podcast episode. I'm quite speedy and try to not to make too many mistakes so filming or recording, editing and uploading can usually happen in more or less one hour. On days when I am not filming I'll use this time to take care of other tasks such as ordering new samples of new merch, purchasing items for upcoming videos, budgeting the money I've made from patreon or Anchor listener support and researching for the next episode of my podcast.

Hour 4: During this hour I'll send and reply to emails. This might not sound like much but it can be quite time consuming. I email brands about potential partnerships or social media campaigns, other content creators about potential collabs and the platforms that host Simply Kennedy for various reasons. Every time I email a brand, content creator or platform I'm basically selling Kennedy C Media to them so I need to be thoughtful about what I am sending. During this time I'll also post on the Kennedy C Media Facebook page, I pay close attention to make sure that the link to every blog post, Youtube video and podcast episode (on every platform) is posted because otherwise I run the risk of people not seeing the content I create. I also post other updates, giveaways or posts about Kennedy C Media.

Hour 5: This is generally a slow hour and at this point I'm almost done with my work for the day. At this time I wrap up for the day. Sometimes I get ahead on editing a video and most days I use this time to prepare for the upcoming media projects that will soon be part of Kennedy C Media. On rare occasions I'll pre-film a Youtube video during this time if I know I'm going to be too busy to film later during the week. Some days I'll also have meetings during this time either with Riza to make preparations for Riza's Weekly Minute or with potential podcast guests to schedule their appearance and discuss our ideas.

In general this is what a typical day at Kennedy C Media is like. I hope you enjoyed getting to dive deeper into what a day at Kennedy C Media is like, and I'd love to share more behind the scenes information about Kennedy C Media any time!

Designing Shoes for Alive Shoes

08/01/2019

Designing Shoes for Alive Shoes

A few weeks ago a company called Alive Shoes got in contact with me, they invited me to apply to design a pair of shoes for them. I was hesitant to apply at first because I was worried it was a scam. After I did my research and concluded that Alive Shoes was a legitimate company that actually wanted me to apply to design shoes for them, I was still hesitant. I've always loved fashion (hence the beauty/fashion page on my blog) and although I could see myself working in some field of styling one day (not that I'm exactly looking for a career in fashion at the moment.. but if anyone wants to offer me a job let me know!) but never did I consider I could do anything even remotely within the field of design.

I started brainstorming ideas, because if I was even going to apply to design shoes I wanted to have a solid idea and a vision for my design. Once I had some solid workable ideas in my head, I finally worked up the courage to apply. Within days they had notified me that my application was approved and I would be designing a pair of shoes for them. I had been skeptical at first, but at this point I was very excited. The entire design process would be digitally (which was a total relief since I can't draw to save my life). I started out with reading an entire handbook about the process of designing and basically a guide for how the program worked. I didn't realize I'd also get to design a tag and box for my shoes, which was totally awesome since that would make the design more personal.

I started out my going through all the different styles of shoes available for me to work with. I decided on what they call a "hi top polo sneaker", which is basically a high top sneaker (so exactly what they called it). I liked this specific style of shoe, because the shoe would be unisex and therefore needed to look appealing for any gender, and this style was perfect for any gender. I knew I wanted the shoe to be purple, because if you know me (or maybe even if you don't know me) you know my favorite color is purple. I hadn't really decided on what other colors I wanted for the shoe although black was definitely on the short list. When I was going over color options I stumbled across a teal/aqua/blue/green color (I'm horrible at describing colors) and even though it isn't a color I'd typically gravitate toward I immediately wanted to use that color. Eventually I ended up with a purple shoe with black detailing and laces in that teal/aqua/blue/green color. I also added yellow stitching to the shoe, which was kind of a nod at Doc Martens and also anyone who is familiar with the color wheel knows purple and yellow go great together so that was my small addition of yellow.

At this point it was time to create the tag that would go on my shoes, but before I could do that I needed a name for the design/my shoe brand. I thought of relating the name back to my Kennedy C Media logo by calling it Kiss Kiss like the kiss on my logo, but since the shoe was unisex I didn't want Kiss Kiss to make them entirely too feminine. I thought of a few other names, but ultimately I decided I wanted everyone who wears them to feel like a legend however they define legend (an athlete, a superstar, and everyday hero, etc.) so I thought why not just call them Legend. Since I might design more shoes in the future (or maybe even clothes, who knows?) I called them Legend By K so technically the shoe itself is Legend but the brand is By K so I could have other shoes called _______ By K. Why K and not Kennedy? Honestly I wanted to add a personal touch, but my name felt entirely too common if you hear Kennedy you won't relate it back to me (even though it would be great if you did) you'll probably think of President Kennedy or someone else first and even though K won't exactly make you think of me it also won't necessarily make you think of anyone else, plus I've always loved my initial so I thought why not.

As far as designing the actual tag I had an image in my head the entire time, which was a lightning bold and the colors purple and black are kind of always in the back of my head so I did my best to create sleek simple tag that incorporated the lightning bolt and colors and also said Legend By K. I came up with just that a sleek tag that incorporated what I wanted without taking away from the shoe. I ended up liking the lightning bolt so much that I added it to the inner tongue of the shoe. If anyone decides to fold the tongue down everyone can see the lightning bolt, but if they don't fold it down it can be a hidden secret that only the shoe's wearer knows about.

The final touch in terms of designing the shoe was to design the box they would come in. Automatically the tag or "logo" of sorts would be on the box, but I also needed to add an image that I thought represented me or the shoe in some kind of way. Of course this meant using the color purple once more. This time I didn't want to add too much detail because I didn't want the box to take away from the shoe in any way. Eventually I decided on simple paint strokes in different shades of purple. They are simple and you can ponder on the meaning of them while also enjoying the design of the shoe itself.

Overall I enjoyed the process of designing the shoes, and the people at Alive Shoes were very helpful and made everything very simple. I also learned I quite like designing and wouldn't mind working on fashion styling or designing in the future both relating to shoes and clothing.

The shoes are officially on sale and cost $200 they are limited edition, shipping is free, they are handmade in Italy and made of Italian leather. I need to sell six more pairs in order for them to go into production (not trying to be sales-y but hey self-promotion doesn't hurt right).

If you want to buy a pair you can order them here: https://www.aliveshoes.com/legend-by-k

New and Improved Blog

08/01/2019

New and Improved Blog

As many of you noticed (and I quite heavily publicized on social media and my newsletter) I have updated my blog, and it has a new direction and look overall. I know some people who visit my blog often had questions about why the new direction for the blog, and what other changes if any could be expected. I was going to address the changes in one of my typical long winded paragraph by paragraph posts, but instead I decided to do something a little bit different so instead it will be more of an FAQ or Q&A style post.

What are some of the major changes to the blog?

The biggest change is that I will be more consistent than I ever was before. I will be uploading blog posts several times a week and have weekly segments such as Woman of the Week of WOW and other weekly segments that I will be introducing in the coming months. Another change is that I removed the College Life page (more details below) and added the Girl Power page to my blog instead. I also added the option to comment using Facebook on my blog posts. Other than that some small changes include updated pictures, a few more fun facts about my on my About Me page and an option to like the Kennedy C Media Facebook page (plus a lot more shameless self promotion for my youtube channel and podcast too).

Why did you remove the College Life page?

When I first started my blog, I thought I would have more to write about from the perspective of a college student and while I have learned a lot as a college student I believe every college student has a unique experience and what I write about as a Junior in Texas who commutes to school each day might not be relevant  to a Freshman living on campus in the East Coast. I thought about keeping the page, but I wasn't inspired to write anything for it. My blog's host site only allows five pages per website (unless I pay more monthly, which I didn't want to do) so I decided I had better things to write about that wore more relevant and would grow with me even when I graduate from college. I decided that if I do write any more college related content I will add it to the "Other" page.

Why the Girl Power page and what can we expect on this page?

In case you didn't read the About Me page (you should if you haven't!) my experience in writing has been heavily focused on topics regarding women including Her Campus, Woman2Woman Magazine and Her Culture Magazine. My experience has made me familiar with topics regarding women, and I've had the pleasure of writing stories as they broke such as an article for Her Campus about the accomplishments of women during the 2018 Winter Olympics and the news that women and Saudi Arabia were legally allowed to drive for Her Culture Magazine. Writing about topics like this as the stories broke made me happy, and I wanted to bring some of this joy to my blog, plus the topic of Girl Power is near and dear to my heart. As you might have read on my homepage I love comic books and as a woman who reads comic books I've constantly heard that comic books aren't for women and women cannot be superheroes, I want to break this stereotype and prove women can be superheroes or anything else they want to be. In general what you can expect on the Girl Power page is anything having to do with women doing great things, big steps toward equality and of course the Woman of the Week or WOW.

What is Kennedy C Media and why do you mention it on the blog now?

For about as long as I've had my blog, I've also had my Youtube Channel which is my pride and joy and my podcast which I love to record. Along with my blog I realized my three big projects are media based and I wanted to be able to refer to my Youtube Channel, Blog and Podcast easily, so I named my brand Kennedy C Media. Sometimes when I say Kennedy C Media I also refer to my Facebook Page which is also called Kennedy C Media and my Instagram @KennedyC_Blog which is also going to be revamped soon. I mention Kennedy C Media on my blog a lot for several reasons first of all because I am proud of my projects, second because if you like me and like what I write on here you'll probably like my videos and podcast and lastly because I only advertise Kennedy C Media myself and do not pay for any kind of advertising or marketing so it is crucial that I use every outlet possible to promote my projects including my blog. Kennedy C Media will also include some fun exciting secret projects in the near future and I would like you all to be the first to know about those when they happen so I won't stop mentioning Kennedy C Media any time soon.

Overall why did you decide to revamp the blog?

Honestly I want to be transparent with my readers, and I was not happy with how much I had been neglecting writing for the blog. First of all I was paying monthly to keep my blog and my domain name, and not writing a single word. The price does not bother me in the least bit if I know I am putting my everything into it and reaching even one person that likes my content, but that wasn't the case. I had been waiting for a time to revamp the blog, and I wanted to come up with something fresh and new that would pull everything together. Eventually I decided the fresh and new aspect would be the Girl Power page, but I still needed to choose the perfect time to revamp the blog and debut it. I decided that International Women's Day especially with the Girl Power page would be the perfect time to officially introduce the revamped blog. I guess what I'm trying to say is I decided to revamp my blog, because I wanted to give 100% to myself and to my readers and the only way to do that would be a (somewhat) fresh start, keeping the aspects of the blog that I do like and scrapping, re-doing and replacing the aspects of the blog I didn't like anymore.

What can you say about the future of KennedyCBlog.com?

I do not know what the future holds! A while back I interviewed Samantha Barry the Editor in Chief of Glamour Magazine and asked her if Glamour would ever go digital like many of the other Conde Nast publications, she told me that she did not want the magazine to go digital but she didn't have a crystal ball to see the future. Only a few months later the news broke that Glamour would be going digital aside from a few special print issues throughout the year. This always makes me thing about how unpredictable the future can be (even when you're in charge of it) and how media is always evolving and it is crucial that those of us in media evolve with it. All I know is that I will continue to promote my blog and Kennedy C Media in general, and unlike before I will not neglect the blog I will write consistently and come up with new, creative, relevant and engaging content as often as possible.

Avengers Endgame *NO SPOILERS* Review

Avengers Endgame *NO SPOILERS* Review

Avengers Endgame is the conclusion of the Infinity Saga that consists of 21 Marvel Movies beginning (in order of release) with Iron Man in 2008 and concluding with Captain Marvel earlier this year. Prior to watching the movie one of the most important things for me was that the movie would do a good job of closing up the various storylines we've seen in all the previous movies, and while I won't go into detail about how this was done in an attempt to avoid spoilers I'll say that the movie was the perfect conclusion to the saga and payed homage to all the movies that came before it.

The first hour of the movie started somewhat slowly, but was crucial to the plot and it did include one epic scene. The second hour of the movie lacked action, but was filled with nostalgia and important plot points. The last hour of the movie though was perhaps the greatest hour of any Marvel movie. The last hour of the movie was so beautifully done both in terms of plot, cinematically and visually.

The movie does a wonderful job of focusing on the original six Avengers in a beautiful way, while giving story arcs to the other character in the movie as well. My only complaint is that some characters deserved more screen time, but it is understandable that the focus would be on the original six avengers and that not every character could have a lot of screen time.

It is filled with plot twists and most major parts of the plot are not easily predictable. I suggest walking into the theater with a clear mind free from all theories because the likelihood that you could predict the conclusion of this movie is not very likely.  In fact most of the scenes from the trailers are not even in the movie.

There is so much more I'd like to talk about, but I'm afraid of spoiling the movie. Instead I will say that without a doubt this is the best Marvel movie of the Infinity Saga and if you haven't already seen it I highly recommend watching the movie. You won't be disappointed and I can guarantee you'll experience a wide range of emotions including; excitement, nostalgia, anger and sadness among others.

In a few weeks when I feel it is appropriate to review the movie with spoilers I will do so (probably after watching it at least one more time) until then this review will have to suffice.
